I have one. You have one. Everybody has one. Rich or poor, tall or short, black or white, they've got one.
I'm talking about That Drawer in the Kitchen.
You know the one. The one that has everything but kitchen stuff in it. Open up That Drawer in the Kitchen and you won't find silverware or spatulas, you'll discover duct tape and paper clips, small nails and screws, pens, pencils, small appliance owner's manuals and Sharpies, with nary a kitchen item in sight.
That Drawer in the Kitchen is a place were nothing makes sense, but everything makes sense. Think about it. That Drawer in the Kitchen is the haystack where the needle can be easily found. It may look like a small tornado organized it, but I bet you a dollar to a donut that right now you could go open That Drawer in the Kitchen and within a few seconds find a small nail or screw. I also bet you that there are people all over the country headed straight for That Drawer in the Kitchen looking for a nail or screw at this very second.
As far back as I can remember every home I have ever been in has had That Drawer in the Kitchen. TDITK is as American as red beans and cornbread or Granny's apple pie. A tradition. A birthright. A mini hardware store right there in your kitchen.
Everything I've written thus far is a metaphor for this blog, That Drawer in the Kitchen. It will be about nothing, but it will be about everything. I'm not sayin' that I am gonna be writin' about nails, screws and small appliance owner's manuals, but I will offer you a smorgasbord of topics, some of my own choosing, others from some of my favorite blogs, still others from my Facebook page or my Twitter time lines.
You never know what you might find until you look.
So, let's take a peek in That Drawer in the Kitchen.
